Chapter 3: Ford

"Ford, get down here now!," Came an order.
"Yes, what?" He asked as he came down the stairs.
"Don't what me. I said some here!" Screamed a lady with ducky brown eyes and dark brown, almost black eyes. There was a girl standing beside her, with the same hair but a shade lighter, her eyes the exact same. She looked older then Ford. She looked towards him with a glare. "Your in trouble!" She sniggered.
"What how? I was in my room all day." Ford replied in bewilderment.
"No you weren't." The girl said, keeping her cold eyes on Ford. "Look at the mess you did!" She turned around and pointed into the kitchen.
He couldn't believe his eyes, broken glasses, shattered plates, the fridge open with everything out. How did I miss that? He thought. How could I do that? I didn't..
"I didn't do that! Honest!" Ford replied, knowing he would get blamed anyways.
"Then if you didn't who did? Did Angela?" She looked at her daughter. "No I don't think so, how can such an innocent child do it?" She asked. "Hmmm?.."
"But she's older then me! And not innocent!" He protested.
"What?!" Angela screeched. "I never-"
"Enough!" Her mother exclaimed. "Go to your room Ford! And don't come out! Your getting locked in for lying and breaking my house!"
"This isn't your house, it's my fathers!" Ford yelled.
"Oh no? It is mine! Your father is dead Ford, never coming back to help you or this pathetic little house." Angela's mother roared.
"You are a monster!" Ford screamed and ran to his room. He slammed the door. I hate her! She is not my stepmother! Why did my dad have to pick her? That witch must have put a spell on him! He thought.
The 'witch' climbed the stairs. "If you don't call me mom called me Iris!" She yelled from the otherside of the door. She brought out a key and locked the door. "Stupid, useless boy!" She descended down the stairs and to her daughter. "I'm sorry we have to live with that boy Angel. He will be ended soon." She smiled sweetly. "He's not even going to get dinner, or breakfast, or lunch, and again, no dinner! He can starve for all I care." The stepmother smiled wickedly.
"Great!" Angela smiled like her mother. "He made the mess and lied, he should get in more trouble."

Inside his room Ford grabbed a box from under the floor boards. No one knew about this and he was glad. "Atleast I still have something from my old life." He smiled as he picked up a smaller box inside the shoe box. He dropped it and it rolled beside him. His eyes lit up, he could never open it. Inside was a necklace, it looked like wind or air. He was confused. "I think my dad named me after the wind cause we could always hear it.." He sighed and picked it up. It was certainly beautiful and very interesting. He put everything back in the shoe box, except for the necklace and pushed it back into the floor board, he ran onto his bed and as he put his necklace on. Just as he hit his bed Iris burst in. He hadn't heard the door unlock.
"What is that?!" She screamed and looked at Ford's new necklace. Before he could respond Iris lunged at the necklace, planning to rip it away from Ford and throw it away. Ford closed his eyes, ready for pain. Soon he felt her hand almost reach his necklace, his throat. But something happened. Iris was lunging for his necklace, and a fierce wind blew and threw Iris against the wall. He looked at his necklace. Did that do it? He asked himself. Iris didn't get back up. She was unconsious. Ford smiled but his smile soon dissapeared as Angela came running up the stairs. She saw her mother. "Monster!" She yelled and ran
for Ford. He closed his eyes then opened them just in time to see Angela fly towards her mom. "Whoa.." Angela managed to land softly. She got back up and brushed herself off. Before she could run at Ford again, he ran. Down the stairs and out the door. Not knowing where to go or what to do. Only knowing he was free. Free from abuse, lies, and murderers.

Chapter 2: Demi

"Demi!" Came a call from across the hallway. "Y-yes?" Came a quiet reply. "You better be in your own bed and laying down!" Snapped back the voice. "Uh oh." She whispered. She looked across to her friend. "I have to go to my bed now." She hissed and ran for her bed, tiptoeing just incase she was heard.
Just as the unknown voice came up to the door, Demi jumped into her bed. Her black hair flowing behind her as she dove under her covers.
"You were up weren't you?" The stranger demanded.
"N-no I wasn't Matron, honest!" Demi replied in her quiet shaky voice.
"Lies!" She shouted and all the other girls peeked over their covers and looked at each other. One whispered to her neighbour. "Demi's going to get detention for lying!"
Demi looked at the girl with a cold glare. The Matron saw the exchange and reached under the covers, feeling for Demi's feet.
"No!" She squealed and pulled her feet away, a bit to late.
"Aha! You were up." She grabbed Demi's arm and pulled her up. "Detention for lying and disobeying!" The Matron boomed. "Your feet are cold, which only means you were up."
"Maybe she just stuck her feet out of the covers." Suggested Demi's friend.
"I would excpect you to stick up for your little friend Ashley, but what Demi does is wrong!" Snapped the Matron and she stomped out of the room her hands still grasped around Demi.
Demi winced but kept quiet. "Am I going to have to stay in my room while the adoption opening is going on?" She asked.
"Yes, and you will have to sleep in solitary while everyone else is finding nice parents.
"What? Please no!" Begged Demi, "I won't ever disobey again! Please."
"That's too late for that child." Cackled the Matron, her long grey hair whisking behind her as she bent her head back with laughter.
Demi closed her eyes tight. Holding back her tears. I hate living here! This is horrible! I want nice parents! She thought despereatly.
Just as she finished her thought the Matron shoved Demi into a stoned room with a single bed which was covered with cobwebs, the only window was a very small one near the top. She looked back just as the door closed. She heard the bolt lock as the Matron left.
"What am I supposed to do?" She asked herself and leaned against the wall sliding down and hugging her knees. Then she saw something shiny out of the corner of her eye. She smiled when she turned her head.
"My locket!" She cried and grasped it in her hand. She hugged it and looked inside it, it was a picture of her parents. It was an oval locket with a two flowers intwined on the front. She giggled and curled up on the cold ground. Hugging her locket. She smiled, it felt warm against her skin. Warm and comforting.

Chapter 1: Brooke

She woke up with a start. "Who's there?" She asked as she heard a bang. She spotted a shadow cross the other side of her room. "I know you are there, who are you?" She demanded. There was another bang as someone ran into her chair. That's it! She thought and swung her legs off of her bed. "What are you doing?" She called to the black figure who was heading to her door. "Stop!" She yelled and the figure spun around, grabbed her and covered her mouth. She was angry. She bit down on the person's hand and it let go. "Help! Dad! Mum!" She cried and the person wheeled around and headed out her window.
"Brooke!" Came a call and she saw her dad standing in her doorway. He flipped on the light and bent down to her, looking up just in time to see the black figure's leg disappear out the window. Brooke's mother was comforting her. "Are you okay?" She asked.
"Yea. I'm fine, a little shaky." She looked up with tears streaming down her face. "Oh Brooke." Her mother hugged her and looked at her husband. "Do you know who that was?" She asked him. "Uh..." He didn't finish.
"Well?" She pressed. He let out a sigh and looked at his wife, his eyes distant. "I know him alright. and he is after Brooke."
His wife instantly understood. "You mean?"
-"Yes." He finished her sentence. "Brooke. Did he do anything?"
"Like what?" She asked. "Like take your locket your mother gave you?" Her locket was a silver seashell with a small starfish on it, inside was a picture of her parents and her. She could always here the ocean or the river currents or the soft trickle of a stream from it.
"No." She replied a bit confused. "Why?"
"No reasons." Her mother told her. "You are safe now, you can sleep in the living room."
"Okay, thank you mum." She hugged her parents goodnight, grabbed her blanket and made her way to her downstairs couch. She laid down and fell asleep, holding her locket to her. It was always hanging from her neck, she had never took it off in her life. Her parents told her it was a gift from someone special. She never knew who but she had always had her locket from birth.
She played with it, twirling it around with her fingers and smiling. Soon she drifted off to sleep, the stranger out of her mind.
